Feb 1, Jan 30, Clemson, SC. Personally, I've never cared much for Ron Carter's sound in any period. He's a phenomenal bassist hence why he's the 3rd most recorded bassist of all time , but his sound always lacked personality to to me, even in the 60's.
Mar 25, Brooklyn NY. I came across Professor Carter's website yesterday, which has some videos of him soloing in the "Gallery" section. Feb 2, Sep 28, USA.
Feb 3, Feb 16, New Mexico. Y'know, lots of folks seem to be kinda lukewarm to Mr. Carter, and that gets under my fingernails. I'm listening to Mr. Bow Tie at this moment. Carter's sound is a splendid mix of pickup clarity and mic depth.
His solo on "I Thought About You" mixes emotional, melodic playing with his trademark athleticism. I'll buy dinner to anybody, anytime who plays Mr. Carter's solo cadenza at the end of the tune -- it's textbook and totally in the moment. Jun 27, Tokyo, Japan. It means I find it difficult to listen to some of those recording despite how well it's played because the bass sounds like an electric cello.
Feb 4, Dec 22, Kennesaw, GA. Apr 27, Ontario. Tom, his posts aren't "anti-Ron," they're "anti-pickup-direct-to-board-and-a-mic'd-amp-not-sounding-like-a-real-double-bass.

Please be polite. Jim Hall is a musicians' musician, a guitarists' guitarist in this case. He's not really a household name like Miles or Ron Carter, which is hard to understand after hearing this recording. Hall's solos are compositional. His interaction with Carter is sublime and thoughtful, no rote licks here.
In Memory of Jim. Although this is an expensive purchase it is money well spent. The Jim in this case is the late American guitarist Jim Hall. Ron Carter collaborated with Hall quite often.
With beautiful results. On this cd Carter is accompanied by not just Larry Coryell on guitar but Peter Bernstein on guitar as well. The music is mainly standards and is lovingly and beautifully played by all 3 musicians. No flashy fusion solos Strange thing is Coryell apparently did not know the set was being recorded.
Some of the best Coryell I have heard in years. Love it. Standard Bearer. Amazing album. Carter's playing is not subtle. Entertainment Tonight. Lynne Segall. May 14, Archived from the original on 8 August VVN Music.
